NEW $2.5 MILLION TYRONE BRIDGE OPEN FOR BUSINESS

FREIGHT efficiency and safety is now improved following the completion of the $2.5 million Tyrone Bridge Replacement Project, jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.

The Australian Government through its Bridges Renewal Program committed $1.25 million for the works and the NSW Government $1.25 million through its NSW Fixing Country Roads program with Eurobodalla Shire Council managing the project.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael McCormack said Tyrone Bridge, which is located on Nerrigundah Mountain Road in the Eurobodalla, provides vital links to dairy farms, extractive quarries and forestry in the area and is now a safer and more efficient freight link.

“The new bridge will be capable of handling higher mass vehicles, increasing the efficiency of the transportation of produce in the area, by eliminating lengthy 20 kilometre detours,” Mr McCormack said.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey, said she was proud the NSW Government had committed more than $500 million to the Fixing Country Roads program over multiple funding rounds.

“Projects such as the replacement of Tyrone Bridge create economic benefits for industry, by removing pinch points and reducing constraints on the freight of goods across NSW and interstate,” Ms Pavey said.

Senator for New South Wales, Jim Molan said the new, higher Tyrone Bridge will be less susceptible to flooding, and will require less maintenance long-term.

“The higher deck level of the bridge will increase accessibility and improve safety for not only heavy vehicles during flood conditions but for all vehicles, including emergency services, school buses, local residents and visitors,” Senator Molan said.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance said this is another great example of three tiers of Government working together to get a great result for our regional communities.

“The new 86m concrete bridge spanning the Tuross River has an estimated 250 vehicle movements each day,” Mr Constance said.

“The Tyrone Bridge is a vital piece of Infrastructure not only for daily freight movements but also residents in Nerrigundah and Belowra, who rely on this bridge for access daily.”

Mayor of the Eurobodalla Shire, Liz Innes today thanked the Australian and NSW Government for their support and contribution to have Tyrone Bridge replaced.

“I would also like to thank council staff who have done an amazing job to deliver this fantastic project on behalf of the Australian and NSW Governments,” Cr Innes said.
