AUSTRALIA DAY HONOURS AWARD CONGRATULATIONS

This year’s Australia Day Honours awards yet again highlight the best of our community, the selfless efforts of so many and our uniquely Australian way of life.

Leader of The Nationals and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the highest Honour awarded to one of The Nationals’ favourite sons, the Hon Warren Truss AC, provided particular recognition to all those from regional Australia.

“All Honours awards recipients deserve their recognition, some achievements are staggering and some individuals have given their lives to serving their communities,” Mr McCormack said.

“The joint Australians of the Year, Dr Richard Harris and Dr Craig Challen, achieved the impossible and so many lives were saved due to their tireless efforts.”

“Of course, all members of The Nationals are especially proud that one of our own has joined the ranks of those most recognised in Australia today. Our dear friend and colleague Warren Truss adds a Companion of the Order of Australia to his many achievements throughout a lifetime of community service.”

“Warren joins many former Nationals’ leaders with Honours, he led our party with dignity and professionalism for more than eight years. Our party is forever stronger due to Warren’s capable leadership, always supported by his lovely wife Lyn.”

“All residents of regional Australia should be proud that this year a lifetime resident of country Queensland, who understands the regions nationwide, has been awarded one of the highest Honours. It is a tribute to all those who serve their communities everyday with pride and conviction.”

“I congratulate all award recipients today and join with you in celebrating all that is good in our nation – wishing everyone a happy, healthy and safe Australia Day 2019,” Mr McCormack said.
