BIG THINGS COMING TO WAGGA WAGGA THANKS TO NEW INDOOR SPORTS STADIUM

WAGGA Wagga’s brand new, state-of-the-art indoor sports stadium is officially open allowing the city to attract and host bigger and better conferences and events.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack, who attended the celebrations, said in addition to creating 300 jobs in construction, the new multi-purpose stadium will give the region a huge economic boost.

“Conferences and events are big money earners and with a seated capacity of 1,200 people, this new stadium will bring in the kinds of events that belong in New South Wales’s biggest inland city,” Mr McCormack said.

“There’s been a growing demand among local sporting groups for more venues and this new three-court indoor stadium shows how the Liberal and Nationals Government investment in sporting infrastructure not only fulfils important community needs but also secures the economic future of our regions.”

Mayor of Wagga Wagga Greg Conkey said it is an exciting time for the residents, sportspeople and businesses of the city.

“The new centre will promote sport throughout our city by catering to the growing demand for indoor court space, increasing sports participation during winter and allowing matches that might have been cancelled on rainy days to carry on,” Councillor Conkey said.

“The stadium will be a valuable community space which will enable sports clubs to expand, promote accessible sports and increase the number of visitors and the amount of money spent during events, which is a win all round.”

This project was funded under the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund, which has invested more than $611 million in infrastructure projects across regional Australia.

This initiative focuses on strengthening Australia’s regions by improving their productivity, employment and workforce skills of regional Australians, while delivering a lasting economic benefit.

The project was jointly funded with the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government investing $4,400,000, Wagga Wagga City Council $4,515,869 and Wagga Netball Association $250,000.
