ADJOURNMENT Murray-Darling Basin

Mr McCORMACK (Riverina) (19:54): Using the slogan 'Open your eyes to Australia's food bowl' the Griffith Business Chamber is hosting a Murray-Darling Basin Plan rally in the heart of the Murrumbidgee irrigation area next Wednesday, 27 June. Griffith's main street, Banna Avenue, will once again come to a standstill as locals fight for their right to have a future.

The rally will be held in Memorial Park from 11.30 am.
The attitude of Riverina people, so concerned about their future farming viability, has not been helped by Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities Tony Burke's recent 'I'll go it alone' approach. He might have his own blueprint for the river system without the states but Griffith people have the backing of Murray irrigators and others, too, and will not be silenced. I thank you for your indulgence, Madam Deputy Speaker.

The DEPUTY SPEAKER ( Ms AE Burke ): I thank the member for Riverina for his concise participation in tonight's debate.
