Funding delivered to support Men's Sheds

The Nationals’ Federal Member for Riverina and Minister for Small Business, Michael McCormack has announced funding for a number of Men’s Sheds across the Riverina and Central West.

A total of $17, 757 will be distributed between four Men’s Sheds across the electorate to promote and support men’s health and wellbeing and forms part of $400,000 in national funding which will be distributed to 93 community Men’s Sheds across Australia.

“Men’s Sheds are a popular way for men to connect with their community — whether it’s through a building project, a first aid workshop or a transition to retirement seminar — that’s why I encourage our local blokes to get involved with their local shed,” Mr McCormack said.

“There are numerous activities for men to take part in, which provide that important sense of belonging to a community, particularly for older men living in rural and regional areas.

“As I travel throughout the electorate I get to see firsthand the strength and importance of the Men’s Shed network and I am encouraged by the Coalition’s continued support of the program.

“I’d like to congratulate the Men’s Sheds in Ardlethan, Coolamon, Forbes and South City in Wagga Wagga that will benefit from these funds to support the purchase of tools, equipment, community projects, training, building maintenance and development, as well as health improvement activities,” Mr McCormack said.

The Australian Government has provided $5.1 million (from 2016-17 to 2018-19) to the Australian Men’s Sheds Association (AMSA) to provide support and resources to new and existing Men’s Sheds and to manage the National Shed Development Programme.

Grants are competitive with priority given to sheds in disadvantaged areas and further rounds of funding will be available for Men’s Sheds and details can be found by visiting www.mensshed.org.

Local Men’s Sheds seeking information on the funding application process should contact AMSA via email atamsa@mensshed.net or phone 1300 550 009.
