Regional people centre of Nats' agenda

The Nationals congratulate Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg on their election as Leader and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and will continue to work with them to deliver for rural and regional Australia in a Coalition Government.

Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals’ Leader Michael McCormack said the people and communities which are represented by The Nationals rely on the Party to be their champion.

“Regional people – like all of us – want to see the Government back a strong future for the regions, with thriving small businesses, farmers and families,” Mr McCormack said

“Just this week The Nationals helped deliver a better deal on the cost of living for regional people, especially pensioners and small businesses, which will put downward pressure on power prices and secure reliability in the energy sector.

“We applaud Scott Morrison’s focus on the current drought which is affecting many regional communities, farmers and families. This will continue to be front and centre of our work in Government together.

“We also want to keep delivering for regional communities, especially through infrastructure, decentralisation and digital connectivity, and this will continue to be our priority.”

Deputy Nationals’ Leader Bridget McKenzie said The Nationals have helped deliver tax cuts for small and family businesses, unprecedented investment in regional development, infrastructure and decentralisation.

“The Nationals are proud of our runs on the board, and will continue fixing Labor’s mess in areas auch as regional education, especially independent youth allowance, and have invested in getting more doctors and nurses into the regions.

“We back farmers – and we know how important confidence in farmers and investment in water infrastructure and dams are, as well as continuing to support communities during the drought.

“We back small businesses and jobs – and as a party of small business we are already seeing how the lowest taxes for small business in 78 years are helping create jobs and opportunities in the regions.”

The Nationals also thank and pay tribute to Malcolm Turnbull for his Prime Ministership and national focus. We particularly thank him for his work on drought relief in partnership with The Nationals.

“We wish Malcolm, Lucy and his family all the best. We know he will continue to make a significant contribution to Australia well into the future,” Mr McCormack said.

“Together, the Liberals and Nationals have delivered for the more than eight million Australians who call regional Australia home and look forward to continuing this good work alongside Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg.”
