FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR SAFER COMMUNITIES

Applications for funding through round five of the Liberal and Nationals Government’s  Safer Communities Fund close next week, the Member for Riverina and Deputy  Prime Minister Michael McCormack says.

“The Safer Communities Fund provides funding to community organisations, schools, pre-schools and local councils to help implement crime prevention and security measures, such as CCTV and lighting,” Mr McCormack said.

“Grants of between $10,000 and $1 million are available.”

Mr McCormack said previous rounds of the Safer Communities Fund had delivered invaluable safety improvements throughout the Riverina and Central West, including $207,792 for CCTV cameras in the Grenfell central business district, $39,450 for CCTV cameras in West Wyalong and $226,306 for Parkes Shire Council to upgrade its existing CBD security network.

“The Riverina and Central West is a safe and friendly region but events throughout the world have shown we cannot be complacent when it comes to safety,” Mr McCormack said.

“The aim of the Safer Communities Fund is to increase feelings of safety in the Australian community and to reduce crime, violence and anti-social behaviour.”

Applications for funding close on 10 December.
