National Volunteer Awards 2011 Nomination Form

28 July 2011

2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). The objective of IYV+10 is to build on the success of IYV in recognising the contributions of the millions of volunteers worldwide. The United Nations’ theme for IYV+10 is ‘Inspiring the Volunteer in You’, which recognises that everyone can be a volunteer and has a valuable contribution to make.

IYV+10 provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to Australian life. Volunteering is an essential part of a socially inclusive society in which all Australian people feel valued and have opportunities to fully participate in their community.

How can we celebrate IYV+10?

To mark this special year and to recognise those volunteers who make an outstanding contribution to their local community, each Member of Parliament (MP) is invited to participate in a nation-wide local awards campaign in their electorate. The campaign involves the presentation of ten special awards by MPs to local volunteers in their electorate who have made an extraordinary contribution to the community.

Each MP is encouraged to organise and promote a ceremony to thank local volunteers for their outstanding contribution and to recognise innovative and inspiring approaches to volunteering. The award ceremonies are to be held on or around International Volunteer Day on 5 December 2011.
