Most people know someone who goes above and beyond to make their communities a better place in which to live. Now is the chance to recognise those people with a special award being sponsored by Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
Nominations are now being accepted for volunteers and their organisations to receive a Commonwealth award to honour the selfless work they do.
“Here is a chance for someone who is an unsung hero or a group which ought to be credited with some overdue praise to receive a special Commonwealth award for their efforts,” Mr McCormack said.
Mr McCormack is calling for nominations for the National Volunteer Award Campaign for 2012.
Volunteers who dedicate their time to the local community will be recognised with awards in 10 different categories.
“This is to acknowledge those valuable locals who play a significant role in our local
community,” Mr McCormack said.
“Volunteering is an essential part of a socially inclusive society and helps all Australian people feel valued and have the opportunity to participate in community life.
“The National Volunteer Awards are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the
tremendous efforts of Australian volunteers in their own communities.”
Members of the community are asked to nominate outstanding volunteers and organisations within
our local community, in the following categories:
– MP’s Volunteer of the Year
– Junior Volunteer Award (17 years and under)
– Young Volunteer Award (18-25 years)
– Education Award
– Environment Award
– Long-term Commitment to Community Service Award
– Business Volunteer Awards
– Innovation in Volunteering Award (for an organisation or individual)
– Senior Volunteer Award
– Emergency Management Volunteer Award
Deadline for nominations are Thursday 15 November 2012.
Awards will be announced and presented on Wednesday 5 December 2012 and be judged by The Daily
Advertiser’s Editor Mr Paul McLoughlin and Temora’s Mayor Cr Rick Firman.
Nomination forms are available from Mr McCormack’s Wagga Wagga and Griffith electorate offices
