Have Your Say

Welcome to Wagga Wagga – from The Daily Advertiser

29 January 2014

IT is my pleasure to welcome new residents to the City of Wagga Wagga and the vibrant Riverina electorate.

Wagga Wagga is a cosmopolitan city with a country feel and a caring attitude. It has the benefits of quality education facilities, many retail stores and other amenities, as well as great career opportunities in a welcoming and supportive community.

Wagga Wagga is a place which is unparalleled for learning, training and teaching excellence. In my view, Wagga Wagga is Australia’s learning capital! No place can rival Wagga Wagga, or even come close, when it comes to learning. With many quality schools, the TAFE and Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga is well served from preschool to PhD. We are now also fortunate to have the REX Australian Airline Pilot Academy training the next generation of pilots right here in town.

In addition to this, many members of the Army and Royal Australian Air Force will spend some time in Wagga Wagga during their training. Wagga Wagga is a tri-service city, with three strands of the nation’s defence force calling our region home. The city plays a significant role in the training, development and retention of much of the defence force and we are proud to welcome many new ADF deployments to our region.

We are also proud to be the “City of Good Sports”. There is a strong sporting culture in Wagga Wagga which has given rise to many sporting champions and which continues to breed the best in many sports. There is an activity in Wagga Wagga for everyone – whether it’s school sports, competitive sports, or a sport as a bit of fun and exercise, Wagga Wagga really has it all.

As well as this, Wagga Wagga is the home of backyard cricket, exemplified by the recent success of Backyard Ashes and the fact we have produced three test cricketers in modern times. In addition to this, Musicana, the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and the Kapooka Military Band contribute to a strong cultural and arts sector in our city.

Our region is also an agricultural hub in the nation’s food bowl. Wagga Wagga and the Riverina region produce quality food and fibre which feeds the nation and the world. This brings with it not just quality produce at our doorstep but also many jobs and investment in the city.

Above all, Wagga Wagga is a city of opportunity and a city of educational excellence with a proud Wiradjuri history. It is a vibrant and welcoming community which has something for everyone.

It is always a pleasure to welcome new citizens to Wagga Wagga and the Riverina electorate. If ever there is anything I or my office can do to assist you, please contact the office.

Welcome to Wagga Wagga.

Kind regards,

Michael McCormack MP
Federal Member for Riverina
