Entries now open for MP’s annual writing competition

3 March 2014

RIVERINA school students are encouraged to get writing ahead of ANZAC Day this year, with Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, calling for entries in his annual writing competition.

In a letter set to Principals last month, Mr McCormack asked students to write a creative and original piece of no more than 250 words about the ANZAC Centenary in the Riverina, to mark the beginning of the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

“My annual writing competition, which encourages primary and secondary students to reflect upon ANZAC Day and Australia’s military role, always demonstrates the creativity and talent of the region’s students,” Mr McCormack said.

“There will be a winner from each Primary and High School division within the four regions of the Riverina electorate,” Mr McCormack said.

“Each winner’s piece will be featured, alongside a photo of them, in my commemorative ANZAC booklets which are distributed to the electorate ahead of ANZAC Day.”

In addition, each student who enters will receive a special Parliamentary certificate, to be presented to them by Mr McCormack at a school assembly.

“Writing is such a valuable skill and I encourage students to start researching and get writing ahead of ANZAC Day,” Mr McCormack said.

“I look forward to reading the students’ work and seeing their talent and enthusiasm on display yet again.”
Winners will be presented with a book prize and commemorative certificate by Mr McCormack.

Entries must be received by Mr McCormack’s Wagga Wagga or Griffith electorate offices by
Friday 14 March 2014.
