McCormack applauds Northparkes’ mine safety trifecta

17 October 2016

CMOC-NORTHPARKES Mines’ reputation as an industry leader in safety and training was cemented with its outstanding performance in a mine rescue competition at Bendigo over the weekend, local Nationals’ MP Michael McCormack has said.

“The result for Northparkes at the weekend demonstrates again what a leader our region is in mine safety and rescue,” Mr McCormack said.

Northparkes won the fire, ropes and theory events and came second in the competition for first aid. Importantly, the team was ranked first for safety across the three days.

“Northparkes Mines has been competing in this event for 20 years and have consistently proven itself as renowned for a focus on training and safety for all its employees,” Mr McCormack said.

Captained by Jamie Pope, the team of Travis Beaton, Wayne Logan, Linda Snyman, Jack Medlyn, Mat Allan and Brooke Lees competed against teams from mines across Australia.

Mr McCormack praised the mine’s leadership team, specifically Managing Director Stefanie Loader and Manager People, Safety and Environment, Angus Wyllie.

“Getting to know the team and operations at Northparkes Mines has been an exciting part of my time in the Central West,” Mr McCormack said.

“It is clear from our discussions and these results at the weekend that the Northparkes Mines’ leadership team is rightfully focused on zero harm operations and setting high benchmarks for the industry.

“This is a great result for the Central West and I congratulate Northparkes on its outstanding result.”

Mr McCormack met with Managing Director Stefanie Loader and Community and External Relations leader Justine Fisher in Canberra last week.
