Grant money to flow for farmers

18 December 2016

The Nationals’ Federal Member for Riverina and Minister for Small Business Michael McCormack has welcomed the news that grant money will soon flow to those primary producers across the Central West affected by the devastating floods from earlier this year.

Additional disaster assistance was announced on 19 December 2016 by the Federal Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and the New South Wales Acting Minister for Justice and Police David Elliot.

The assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

Mr McCormack was pleased that farmers and those on the land across the Central West would be offered financial assistance to assist with the short to medium term recovery effort.

“Recovery grants of up to $15,000 are now available to help flood affected primary producers with their recovery needs,” Mr McCormack said.

“The Government announced other forms of assistance earlier this year including concessional loans and freight subsidies that I know were appreciated by many on the land and these recovery grants announced this week are in addition to those.

“These grants can be used be used for recovery efforts such as salvaging stock and crops, purchasing fodder, removing debris and repairing damage to equipment.”

The recovery grants are available to eligible primary producers in seven local government areas. The eligible Councils in the Riverina electorate are Bland, Forbes and Parkes in addition to Bogan, Lachlan, Narromine and Warren.

To apply for a recovery grant, primary producers in the local government areas above can contact the NSW Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593 or by visiting raa.nsw.gov.au
