Mobile blackspots at Dirnaseer are set to be eradicated, thanks to The Nationals’ commitment to fund a new tower, Riverina Nationals’ MP Michael McCormack has announced.
“Farmers and their communities in this isolated part of the Riverina electorate have fought for years to get this project on the agenda of telecommunications companies,” Mr McCormack said.
“The passion and dedication of these people for the mobile service they deserve was clear – they drove hundreds of kilometres to meet with me, with telecommunications companies and with media outlets to make sure we knew about their needs.”
“Local farmers, led by the ever-passionate Bob McCormack, even started a fund for the construction of their own tower, without help from telcos or previous Governments.
“I heard them loud and clear and have worked with Ministers and telecommunications companies to make the mobile tower a reality,” Mr McCormack said.
The Nationals have committed an additional $60 million to the Mobile Blackspot Programme, building on the $160 million investment in this term of Government.
“Better mobile service is something The Nationals understand and have made sure we fix, with properly-funded programmes to ensure those communities which need it most, finally get the coverage they deserve.”
A re-elected Coalition Government will deliver a mobile base station as part of Round 3 of the Mobile Blackspot Programme.
