THE volunteer and community spirit of the Junee Rotary Club has been acknowledged and praised by Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack.

While it was rather brisk temperature wise on the weekend and there has not been any reported sightings of Nessie of Loch Ness, the local service club had a Scottish theme for its annual changeover event held in Junee on Sunday and attended by the local Federal MP sporting a tartan tie.

Mr McCormack said he was so impressed with the number of activities and projects the club supported here in the region and further afield.

“The Rotary Club of Junee has donated more than $12,000 between local, national and international projects, which perfectly captures the global motto of the organisation, ‘Rotary serving humanity’,” Mr McCormack said.

“The contribution both financial and in-kind made by the members of service clubs such as Rotary is simply immeasurable.

“As the local Member I have the opportunity to meet with many community groups and attend changeover events, having recently been at guest at the enjoyable and successful changeover dinner for Coolamon Rotary just last week.

“However, there is nothing more special than being witness to and recognising quiet achievers and the local heroes in our midst. Trish Davies from the Junee Club was awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow for her stoic efforts and significant personal contributions to the club and the local community.

“I want to pay tribute to and congratulate Trish on her well-deserved award and acknowledge the efforts of all those who contribute to the positive and community minded spirit which the Club embraces.”

Other award winners on the day were Robbie Duncan and Ian Manwaring (community service) and Amy Murphy (vocational service).

Outgoing president for 2016-17 John Wright handed the baton to Graham Paton.
