The Australian Government has delivered again today, to ensure businesses in regional Victoria are offered support and workers in regional Victoria remain in jobs.
Leader of The Nationals and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said the JobKeeper program had been extended to include hundreds of thousands more workers, with businesses previously unable to access the scheme set to benefit.
“From the day we introduced JobKeeper, an unprecedented level of financial support to safeguard Australia’s economy, we made it clear we would not hesitate to take even further action to save lives and protect livelihoods,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“This additional expansion of JobKeeper is proof we are making good on that promise.
“I know how hard so many businesses in regional Victoria are hurting. I know how hard so many communities are hurting. But I want every regional Victorian to know, from Mallacoota to Swan Hill, The Nationals in Government are standing side-by-side with you as we get through this together.
“This will be a tough six weeks to navigate, but we know regional Victoria will be a driving force on the other side of this pandemic, being so central to Australia’s economic road back.
“Today’s expansion of the JobKeeper program will continue to protect regional Victorian livelihoods.
“Advice we have received shows more than 500,000 Victorians will take up the wage subsidy in the September quarter, lifting the total number of recipients in the state to 1.5 million.”
