FEDERAL Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, is delighted with the number of entries received in his annual ANZAC Day writing competition.
“At the last count, there are more than 1,000 entries in the writing competition. I am delighted to see the competition’s popularity growing amongst school students from right across the Riverina,” Mr McCormack said.
“From the entries I have read so far, students have a real understanding of the significance of the ANZAC Centenary, which is what the competition sought to encourage. I have been impressed again with the creativity and talent of many of our students in the Riverina.
Mr McCormack attributes this year’s growth in the number entries to an awareness of the Centenary of World War I and great support from local schools, parents and teachers.
“The number of entries is growing every year. This year’s entries are almost double that of two years ago, which is fantastic,” Mr McCormack said.
“I would like to thank Riverina school principals and teachers for encouraging students to participate in this year’s competition.
Mr McCormack will review the entries over the coming weeks, with each of the winners featured in his four annual ANZAC Day information booklets, which will be distributed to every household in the week leading up to 25 April 2014.
