Have Your Say

TRANSCRIPT: INTERVIEW WITH WIN NEWS WAGGA, 22 APRIL 2025

22 April 2025

E&OE

SUBJECTS: BAYLIS STREET PRE-POLL.

STARTS: 10.39AM

ENDS: 10:42AM

INTERVIEWER:

What are your main messages for voters as pre-polling starts?

MICHAEL McCORMACK:

Are you any better off than you were three years ago? The answer to that question is the answer to help people to vote. People are much poorer now than what they were three years ago when Labor came into office. Power bills are up, their grocery bills, their petrol prices are up. We’ve got a plan to get Australia back on track. We’re going to make sure that when we get in we’re going to halve petrol excise and the petrol tax and save people $15 every time they fill up. We’re going to put a supermarket commissioner on the beat to make sure that the duopoly absolutely pays our farmers a fair price at the gate because farmers aren’t price makers, they’re price takers.

And of course, the people who are shopping are going to get a fair price at the check-out. These are such important things, I have been getting a good vibe from people at pre-poll, it’s the first day. We have two weeks of pre-poll and then we have the election on the 3rd of May.

I don’t take any vote for granted, I don’t take any voter for granted. I listen, I’ll turn up and I’ll certainly hear their concerns. And if I’m fortunate enough to be re-elected, as the  Member for Riverina, I’ll take those concerns to Canberra and fight very hard for the Riverina, as I’ve always done.

INTERVIEWER:

And are you planning to be at different polling booths throughout the two weeks?

MICHAEL McCORMACK:

Oh, absolutely. I’ve already been at two polling booths in Wagga Wagga today. A little bit, of news today, of course the Pope and we take reflection, and we pause to remember the great work that Pope Francis has done in the world. The forgiveness that we brought and all of those things.

So, I will be going to Mass at the Cathedral around lunch time. But I’ll be going to all the other polling booths, Yass and Tumut. They are scattered right throughout this very large and sprawling electorate. And certainly, I’ve been out and about, for many weeks past ever since the new electorate boundaries were formulated. I’ve been to all parts of the electorate – the new electorate, listening to people, hearing their concerns and taking those concerns on board.
