McCORMACK FIGHTING FOR TEMORA COMMUNITY GARDEN

12 April 2025

Two disused Temora tennis courts will be transformed into a community garden with funding from a Federal Coalition Government, Nationals’ Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has announced.

Mr McCormack said a Liberal-Nationals Government would contribute $25,000 to the project.

“Community spaces are crucial to the well-being of people and I am delighted to back this project for the people of Temora and District,” Mr McCormack said.

“The community garden is an idea of the Green Team, a group of young people aged between 12 and 25 who meet regularly to undertake activities focused on the environment as part of Temora Shire Council’s youth program.

“The proposal involves developing a community garden on two fenced and seldom used clay tennis courts which are located adjacent to Platform Y, the home of Council’s youth program.

“The whole community can benefit from this project as it will be designed to be fully inclusive for elderly people and people with a disability. This can be a social hub, connecting people of all ages and abilities.”

Temora Mayor Rick Firman OAM welcomed Mr McCormack’s commitment, saying the garden would bring the community together.

“Council believes this will be a tremendous project because it will assist in making others feel they belong, and that is most important,” Councillor Firman said.

“Temora Shire Council and our community warmly thank Mr McCormack for his strong support of our projects. We feel blessed to have him in our corner.”

Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals’ continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians.
