Carbon tax repeal to benefit Riverina
THE Coalition Government has today kept its promise to the families, small businesses and farmers of the Riverina and abolished the carbon tax, Riverina MP Michael McCormack said.“Everyone knows the carbon tax was having a detrimental impact on many businesses and industries within our region,” Mr McCormack said.
Infrastructure over buybacks is key
THE Nationals’ Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has welcomed the Government’s Water Recovery Strategy recommendation that investment be made in on-farm efficiencies and infrastructure, rather than buybacks.“Through moving the disallowance motion on the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in late 2012, I was able to secure a commitment from the Coalition that buybacks would be capped at 1500 gigalitres,” Mr McCormack said.
Communications spokesman to hold mobile coverage forums
FEDERAL Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has announced Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher, will next week hold two community consultations in the Riverina on mobile phone coverage.“Mobile phone coverage is an issue constituents tell me about every day. The blackspots are something we would all like to see improved,” Mr McCormack said.
Local funding secured in Budget

$3.9 million school facilities opened
Students and staff at St Francis de Sales Regional College in Leeton today celebrated the opening of their Library and Collaborative Learning Space that were built with the help of more than $2.5 million in Australian Government funding. Entries now open for MP’s annual writing competition
RIVERINA school students are encouraged to get writing ahead of ANZAC Day this year, with Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, calling for entries in his annual writing competition. In a letter set to Principals last month, Mr McCormack asked students to write a creative and original piece of no more than 250 words about the ANZAC Centenary in the Riverina, to mark the beginning of the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
