McCormack fights for small towns
Taking away town status from many centres in the Riverina has prompted Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack to call for a guarantee of Commonwealth services in those localities.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has decreed that the minimum number of people to qualify as a town is 200 leaving such places as Binya, Ladysmith, Merriwagga, Rankins Springs and many others to no longer be officially considered a town.
McCormack praises fire fighters
The mighty efforts of full-time personnel and volunteer fire fighters have averted a potentially disastrous situation in the region, according to Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
Wonderful work by dedicated people across the Riverina has limited the loss of property and livestock from this week’s widespread fires, Mr McCormack said.
Foreign takeover slammed by McCormack
A proposal for a Chinese conglomerate to gain a 50-year lease on a north Australian irrigation area has incensed Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
Shanghai Zhongfu has reportedly won the sole right to develop 15,200 hectares of prime agricultural land in Western Australia after more than half a billion dollars of taxpayer funds was spent building road, irrigation, port and local community infrastructure to support the deal.

SunRice reopens Coleambally Rice Mill
The reopening of the SunRice Mill at Coleambally is a huge boost for the entire region and especially the industry, according to Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
“It is so great to see the mill back up and running and heralds an exciting new era for the community and rice growing in the Riverina,” Mr McCormack said.
McCormack to honour volunteers

Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has called on Federal Water Minister Tony Burke to put before parliament a Murray-Darling Basin Plan which will ensure the prosperity of regional areas.
“Prime Minister Julia Gillard in a recent speech said the nation needed to strengthen irrigation and ensure we would be a food bowl for Asia and the Murray-Darling Basin Plan needs to reflect that vision, Mr McCormack said.

After countless months of lobbying by Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack, locals in Ungarie can now claim Commonwealth payments of $1000 for each adult and $400 for each child.
‘New’ oval should honour a legend: McCormack
Robertson Oval should be renamed Paul Kelly Park in recognition of one of Wagga Wagga’s favourite sporting sons, according to Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
“At this time when the facility is getting a complete make-over, it would also be fitting for it to modernise its name,” Mr McCormack said.

Mill opening a show of faith: McCormack
Reopening the Coleambally rice mill is a show of confidence in the region and challenges the Federal Government to show similar faith, according to Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.
Describing today’s announcement as “exciting news”, Mr McCormack said the onus was now on the Government to “delivery certainty” to the Riverina.
The Coleambally mill will resume operations, a development costing $2.3 million and generating 34 jobs.
