People power will drive message: McCormack

Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has praised the passion and commitment of the 5000 or so people who protested against the Labor Governments planned carbon tax at Parliament House in Canberra today.

“They turned up en masse to send a message to the Government that a carbon tax is unfair and unnecessary,” said Mr McCormack who addressed the rally.

Inequity in water buy-backs

There is an anomaly in the most recent round of water buy-backs released in October for the Murrumbidgee catchment according to Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack.

Students may finally get fair go

There is renewed hope that Independent Youth Allowance criteria may soon be made fairer, something Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has been calling for since being elected last August.

Independent Senator Nick Xenophon is now backing a Bill by Nationals’ Senator Fiona Nash to reinstate the original and fairer eligibility criteria.

NSW farmers cut short in flood fund

“I am appalled that the Prime Minister has waited this long to answer the plight of flood affected victims throughout NSW,” said Mr McCormack.

“Not only is it overdue, but it seems NSW farmers and small business affected by floods are not as important as their Queensland counterparts who have been offered a more reasonable $25,000.

Attorney-General to talk to Minister for Ag

Attorney-General Robert McClelland has assured Member for Riverina Michael McCormack he will speak to Minister for Agriculture Joe Ludwig about the devastation to Riverina grain crops.

Mr McClelland was in Wagga Wagga today to assess the current Murrumbidgee River flood crisis and discussed the crop damage with Mr McCormack.

A report in the Daily Telegraph yesterday, headed ‘Fear for ghost towns’ included the Riverina’s Hillston and Leeton as centres at greatest risk if water cuts proposed by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority proceeded. Members on this side of the House have been aware for a long time just how hard the cuts would hit regional Australia whilst for whatever reason, convenient or otherwise, it has only just dawned upon those opposite.
