Labor’s youth allowance back flip

Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack revealed his disappointment in Labor’s unfair attitude towards regional university students in a speech to Federal Parliament today.

Minister for Tertiary Education Senator Chris Evans has foreshadowed changes to independent youth allowance would finally be made.
 

Carbon tax to hurt Riverina: McCormack

The Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has told Parliament how a carbon tax will hurt Riverina families and damage local agriculture and industries.

Mr McCormack was the final speaker in the debate but was restricted to just five of his allotted 15 minutes as Labor imposed a gag on Coalition MPs speaking on the Bills.

Having grown up in the Riverina, and with children about to enter the workforce, Michael is committed to ensuring that young people are given every opportunity to stay in our region.

This means fostering entry level jobs and apprenticeships and attracting new investment to the region. It also means working to secure new training opportunities for local students.

National Volunteer Awards 2011 Nomination Form

2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). The objective of IYV+10 is to build on the success of IYV in recognising the contributions of the millions of volunteers worldwide. The United Nations’ theme for IYV+10 is ‘Inspiring the Volunteer in You’, which recognises that everyone can be a volunteer and has a valuable contribution to make.

Bee funding ‘about time’: McCormack

The Federal Government has finally opted to act to prevent the spread of the dangerous Asian bee.

Whilst acknowledging funding of a $2 million program to fight the Asian bee, Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said he hoped it would not be a case of “too little, too late”.

MP to continue to fight for bee industry

Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has vowed to continue to lobby for the eradication of the Asian bee.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Riverina branch of the New South Wales Apiarists Association in Wagga Wagga on Monday night, Mr McCormack said it was incumbent upon the Federal Labor Government to ensure that this pest was permanently removed from our shores.

Youth allowance hearing for Wagga announced

A hearing to discuss independent youth allowance in the Riverina has been scheduled for Thursday May 12, 2011.

Announcing this today, Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said the hearing will give Riverina students affected by Labor’s unfair independent youth allowance exclusion the opportunity to have their say.
