An elected Coalition Government, with a Nationals’ Member for Riverina, will support both the Wagga Women’s Health Centre and the Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association with security upgrades as part of a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF).
“Wagga Women’s Health Centre is set to receive $35,000 and the Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association will receive $5,000 as part of the Coalition’s plan to improve community safety and security if it is elected to Government,” Mr McCormack said.
“The funding Wagga Women’s Health Centre is allocated will go towards improving the security and safety of its facility.
“It intends to install swipe card access to both external and internal doors, which will reduce risks to staff by making it quicker and easier to lock and unlock doors.
“It will also keep a record of access to the building, further enhancing safety and deterring security breaches.
“It is vital we make sure staff as well as people seeking refuge and support feel safe and comfortable — that’s why this funding will be so important.
“The funding allocated towards the Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association will go towards comprehensive security and surveillance upgrades at its buildings on Railway Street.
“Due to vandalism and fire last year, the Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association lost historical artefacts which were stored in a neighbouring building.
“It is clearly of paramount importance to support the association with the security upgrades it needs, particularly with the closed-circuit television upgrades we will deliver.
“Preserving our region’s rail history is a noble cause which adds so much depth to our local culture.
“I will be very proud to deliver this essential funding to these two key Wagga Wagga institutions, should the Coalition be elected to Government with a Nationals’ Member for Riverina.”
Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Senator James Paterson said under a Dutton Coalition Government, the Riverina community would be safer and more secure.
“Getting Australia Back on Track means keeping Australia safe – safe for families, safe for businesses, and safe for communities,” Senator Paterson said.
“Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.”
The revitalised SCF will build on the program established by the previous Coalition Government, delivering grant funding to councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community spaces, and promote social cohesion.
This commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country Back on Track.
