One week left to enter MP’s writing competition

8 March 2013

WITH just one week to go until entries in the annual ANZAC writing competition close, Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has urged students to submit their pieces to be in the running to win stunning ANZAC books.

“I am pleased with the calibre of entries received so far, and encourage students to continue writing about ANZAC Day in the Riverina for this competition,” Mr McCormack said.

Now in its third year, Mr McCormack’s annual writing competition is a chance for the region’s students to showcase their talents and write about the significance of the most important day in the nation’s history.

“I am always very impressed with the talents of many Riverina students in this competition, and this year’s entries demonstrate the continuing passion and understanding Riverina students have for ANZAC Day, which is highly commendable.” Mr McCormack said.

Students are encouraged to write a poem, essay or short story of no more than 250 words on “ANZAC Day in the Riverina”.

The best entries chosen will receive a commemorative ANZAC-related book, to be presented by Mr McCormack.

Primary school students will have the chance to win a beautifully illustrated storybook A Day to Remember, a picture book tracing the story of ANZAC Day through the past 100 years.

For high school students there is a magnificent hard-cover book The Lost Diggers, by Ross Coulthard, on offer.

All students who enter Mr McCormack’s writing competition will also receive a commemorative signed Parliamentary certificate to acknowledge their hard work.

Entries can be sent to Mr McCormack’s Wagga Wagga or Griffith electorate offices.

Submission of entries closes on Friday 15 March 2013 at 5pm.
